At the turn of the millennium, I changed my hair color. Since then I’ve logged more than 500 hours in the hairdresser’s chair so I know something about being pampered. I earned a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College and attended the corporate school of hard knocks in Connecticut and San Francisco before moving to Utah. I live on a 40-acre ranch outside of Park City with my husband, two dogs, two cats, and four llamas.
Have you ever read those accounts of actual crimes in the newspaper that seem so far-fetched they couldn't have happened? The robber who leaves his cell phone at the scene of the crime. The chiropractor who bilks Medicare out of millions. Who are these people? I began to imagine them, yes, and make up their stories. And in the process I developed the character of a hairdresser who solves crimes for her policeman husband.
Have you ever come home from a great road trip and discovered hundreds of $ in credit card charges from a gas station you patronized only once? I have. So I looked into the problem and discovered skimming - a rather benign term for a huge scam. This high tech practice costs millions and lots of worry for ordinary people who never knew it existed. Dismayed receipt of a credit card bill and wham - Cutting for Fun & Profit was born.
